The Disney Wish Is Coming to New York in Fall 2027 — and NJ Families Have Good Reason to Be Excited
Living in Lawrence, New Jersey, I am used to thinking of New York as close enough to be convenient and far enough away that traffic still deserves to be part of the plan.
So when Disney Cruise Line announced that the Disney Wish will sail from New York in fall 2027, I immediately started thinking about the families I know here in New Jersey, New York and eastern Pennsylvania who love Disney but would also love a vacation that begins a little closer to home.
Disney is bringing the Wish to New York for just seven cruises, all between September 29 and November 5, 2027. There are Bermuda sailings, Canada and New England itineraries, and one final cruise that begins in New York and ends in San Juan.
For families in Central New Jersey, that gives us something we have not had in several years: the chance to begin a Disney cruise with a drive instead of a flight.
A Disney Vacation Without Starting at the Airport
When I help a family plan a cruise from Florida, the cruise fare is only one part of the vacation. We also need to think about airfare, getting everyone to and from the airport, arriving early enough that a flight delay does not put the cruise at risk, a hotel the night before in many cases, transportation to the port, and all the little expenses that come with that extra travel day.
From Lawrence, Princeton, Hamilton and much of Mercer County, New York is just a little over an hour away before we account for that famous New York traffic. Families throughout North and Central Jersey, the New York metro area, Bucks County and parts of eastern Pennsylvania may find these sailings especially convenient.
For most of the New York departures, you can wake up at home and sleep that night aboard the Disney Wish. That is a pretty magical way to begin a vacation.
A First Disney Vacation — or a Different Kind of Disney Vacation
I think families sometimes get stuck on the idea that a child’s first Disney trip has to mean Walt Disney World.
It does not.
A Disney cruise can be a wonderful first taste of Disney for a child or grandchild because you still have the characters, the shows, the storytelling and the service, but you are not trying to fit several park days, dining reservations and thousands of steps into the same trip.
And if you have already done Walt Disney World and still remember looking at your phone at night to see just how far you walked that day, you may be ready for a different kind of Disney vacation.
That is where Disney Cruise Line fits so beautifully. You still get plenty of Disney magic, but you also get the joy of a relaxing cruise. You unpack once. You can enjoy dinner together without rushing across a park to get there. The kids can spend time in the youth clubs while the adults enjoy a restaurant, a cocktail or a little time together. You can spend a day exploring a port, another afternoon by the pool, and still end the evening with a Disney show.
Years ago, on one of those early Disney trips with my son that I had carefully planned down to the details, I learned that the things we treasure most later are not always the things we worked hardest to fit into the schedule. The photographs, the conversations, the silly moments, and the family time are what grow more valuable with the years.
That lesson has stayed with me in the way I help families plan today. I still love a good plan, and I absolutely want to make sure your family knows what matters and what needs to happen when, but I also want the vacation to leave room for you to enjoy the people you went with.
For first-time Disney families, grandparents traveling with grandchildren, multigenerational families, or longtime Disney fans who are ready for some magic with a little more breathing room, the Disney Wish from New York deserves a close look.
Why the Disney Wish Makes These New York Sailings Especially Fun
The Disney Wish is one of Disney Cruise Line’s newer ships, and it gives families a very different Disney experience from several days in the theme parks. You still have themed dining, character experiences, family entertainment, youth clubs, pools and spaces created specifically for adults, but the pace can be much more relaxed.
That does not mean I think everyone should choose a cruise instead of Walt Disney World. They are different vacations, and what works beautifully for one family may not be what another family wants at all.
The question I would ask is much simpler: what do you want this Disney vacation to feel like?
If your family wants park days, attractions and that moment of walking down Main Street toward Cinderella Castle, then let’s plan that vacation. But if what you want is Disney service, plenty for the children to do, time together as a family and a little more opportunity for the adults to relax too, a Disney cruise may be exactly the kind of trip you are ready for.
Disney Wish New York Sailings for Fall 2027
The New York season is short — just seven departures during a five-week window.
- September 29 – October 3: 4-night Bermuda
- October 3 – 8: 5-night Canada & New England
- October 8 – 14: 6-night Bermuda & Canada
- October 14 – 19: 5-night Bermuda
- October 19 – 24: 5-night Bermuda
- October 24 – 31: 7-night Canada
- October 31 – November 5: 5-night New York to San Juan via Bermuda
Five of the seven cruises visit Bermuda, while the Canada and New England options give families another kind of fall vacation entirely. Most of the October departures also fall during Disney Cruise Line’s Halloween season, adding another layer of Disney fun onboard.
What About Jersey Week 2027?
This is probably one of the first questions New Jersey parents will ask me.
The NJEA has not yet published the 2027 convention dates, so I do not want to treat projected dates as though they are confirmed. Based on the usual timing, however, the sailing that appears most likely to overlap Jersey Week is the October 31 – November 5 cruise.
One important detail: that cruise leaves from New York but ends in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
For some families, that will make it less appealing. For another family, it may be a chance to turn the end of the cruise into a few extra days in Puerto Rico before flying home. That is the kind of detail I like to talk through with clients, because a sailing that looks awkward at first glance can sometimes become a really fun vacation when we look at the whole trip.
Would I Consider Concierge on the Disney Wish?
Yes, I would at least price it and talk about it.
I would not tell every family to spend more simply because an upgrade is available. But if this is a milestone birthday, an anniversary, a first Disney vacation with the grandchildren, or one of those trips your family has been talking about for years, Concierge on the Disney Wish could be a delightful way to make it feel even more special.
Some families will look at the added service, dedicated spaces and extra ease and decide they would rather put that money toward another part of the trip. Others will hear what is included and say, “That is exactly how I want this vacation to feel.” Both are perfectly good answers. My job is to help you understand the difference before you spend the money.
Why Booking Early Matters for These Seven Cruises
I am already working with several families who are looking at the new Disney Cruise Line itineraries, and I expect the New York sailings to get plenty of attention simply because there are so few of them.
Disney Cruise Line pricing generally changes as availability changes, and as particular stateroom categories begin to fill, the price of the remaining inventory can increase. Early planning also gives us more choices if you need connecting rooms, want a particular stateroom location, are interested in Concierge, or have several family members who want to be near one another.
Booking opened to the general public on September 8, 2026, after Disney’s early-booking period for eligible Castaway Club members.
If you have sailed Disney before, tell me your Castaway Club level when you contact me. And if you cruised with Disney this year and purchased a Future Cruise Placeholder onboard, mention that too. I can help you look at what you have and how it may fit into the new sailing you are considering.

Is a Disney Cruise from New York Right for Your Family?
Maybe — and that is exactly why I want to talk with you before we start comparing random prices and staterooms.
I want to know who is traveling, how old the children are, what you loved or did not love about previous vacations, how much downtime you want, what matters to the adults as well as the kids, and what you hope everybody remembers when the vacation is over.
Embrace The Magic Travel has been helping families plan Disney vacations since 2012, and I am based right here in Lawrence, New Jersey, near Princeton and Hamilton. I work with families throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and across the country.
If one of these seven Disney Wish sailings has you wondering whether this could be your family’s next Disney trip, send me a message. You do not have to sort through every date, ship detail and stateroom category first. Tell me what you are thinking, and we will take it from there.
